Custom Compounding Pharmacy

Some medications need to be made just for you. At Queensville Pharmacy, we can help with a wide range of custom compounded medications through Helios Laboratories, our trusted Ontario licensed central-fill compounding pharmacy partner. Turnaround is usually 1 to 2 business days. A valid prescription is required.

What is custom compounding?

Custom compounding is when a medication is specially prepared for a patient based on a prescription. This may be needed when a regular manufactured product is not the right fit for your needs.

Some common reasons for custom compounding include:

  • your medication is not available as a regular commercial product
  • your prescription needs a special combination of ingredients
  • the usual product is on back order or in short supply
  • the strength you need is not sold commercially
  • you need a different dosage form, such as a cream instead of a tablet
  • you have trouble swallowing pills
  • you are allergic or sensitive to an ingredient in the regular product and need a different formulation

What kinds of compounded medications can you help with?

We can help with many types of compounded medications, including

  • topical creams and ointments
  • sterile injections
  • eye drops
  • hormone replacement therapy (topical, oral, injection)
  • custom capsules or liquid forms
  • compounded controlled medications
  • compounded pet medicine (including flavouring)
  • and much more

Helios indicates it supports both sterile and non-sterile compounding, and recent company updates note controlled substance compounding capability.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. In Ontario, a prescription is required for all compounded medications.

How long does it take?

Most compounded medications are usually ready within 1 to 2 business days, depending on the medication and ingredients needed.

Who prepares the medication?
