Also known as Dysmenorrhea.
Menstrual cramps are pain that happens during your period. The pain is usually cramping in your lower belly. You may also feel pain in your lower back or upper thighs. The pain often starts right before your period or on the first day and usually lasts about 1 to 3 days.
You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe treatments that are safe and can help with the pain.
Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
