Also known as mouth ulcers or oral aphthae.
Canker sores are small, painful spots that form inside the mouth. They can be on the gums, tongue, lips or inside the cheeks. They are usually round or oval shaped, with a white or yellow center and a red border. They can sting, burn and make it hard to eat, drink or speak.
You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe treatments to ease the pain, reduce swelling and help the sore heal faster.
Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
