Also known as Herpes labialis

Cold sores are small painful blisters that usually appear on or near the lips. They are caused by a virus that can spread from person to person, often through kissing or sharing items like cups or lip balm. Before the blister shows up, you may feel tingling, itching or burning in the area. The blister can break open, crust over and then heal.

You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe treatments to help with these symptoms.

Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
