Also known as diaper dermatitis.
Diaper rash is very common in babies and young children who wear diapers. It happens when the skin in the diaper area is in contact with wetness, rubbing and stool or urine for too long. The skin can look red, warm, swollen or dry and flaky. Your child may seem uncomfortable when the area is cleaned or when the diaper is changed.
You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe topical treatments to calm the skin and help it heal.
Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
