Hemorrhoids happen when veins in the rectum or around the anus become swollen. Sometimes you can see or feel a small lump. Other times they are inside and you cannot see them. Hemorrhoids can cause itching, burning, pain or a small amount of bright red blood on the toilet paper.
You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe treatments to help with these symptoms.
Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
