Also known as Musculoskeletal sprains and strains, pulled muscles or ligament injuries.
Muscle strains and sprains happen when the soft tissues in your body are hurt.
• A strain is when a muscle or tendon is stretched too far or torn
• A sprain is when a ligament, which connects bones at a joint, is stretched too far or torn
These injuries can happen suddenly, such as during sports or a fall, or they can build up over time. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising and trouble using the injured area.
You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe treatments to help with pain and swelling.
Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
