Also known as Candidal stomatitis, or oral candidiasis.
Oral thrush is an infection in the mouth or throat caused by a type of fungus. It often shows up as white patches on the tongue, inside the cheeks or at the back of the throat. Your mouth may feel dry or cotton like and food may not taste the same. Sometimes it can hurt when you eat or swallow.
You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe antifungal treatments to clear the infection.
Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
