Pinworms and threadworms are small white worms that can live in the large intestine. At night they crawl out around the anus to lay eggs. This can cause very itchy skin around the bottom, trouble sleeping and sometimes mild tummy pain. You may sometimes see the tiny white worms in the stool or on the skin.
You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe treatments to kill the pinworms and help with these symptoms.
Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
