Impetigo is a skin infection that happens when germs get into small cuts, scrapes or bug bites. It is more common in young children, but older children and adults can get it too. It often starts as red spots that turn into small blisters filled with fluid. The blisters break and the fluid dries into a yellow or golden-brown crust that looks like dried honey.

You do not always need to see a doctor first. In many cases our pharmacists may be able to prescribe treatments to clear the infection and help the skin heal.

Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
