Lyme disease is an infection that some ticks can pass to humans. Not every tick carries the germs, but black legged ticks are the type that can. To spread Lyme disease, an infected tick has to bite you and stay attached for some time. Early signs can include a rash that sometimes looks like a bulls eye or ring, and may be followed by fever, feeling tired, body aches or sore joints if not treated.
You do not always need to see a doctor first. If you were bitten by a tick in less than 72 hours and do not have serious symptoms, our pharmacists may be able to prescribe an antibiotic to lower your chance of getting Lyme disease.
Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
