Also known as UTI or bladder infection.

A urinary tract infection is an infection in the bladder. It can cause burning or pain when you pee, needing to pee more often than usual, or feeling like you have to rush to the bathroom. If it is not treated, a UTI can sometimes spread to the kidneys and turn into a complicated kidney infection or blood infection.

You do not always need to see a doctor first. If you are female and not pregnant, our pharmacists may be able to prescribe an antibiotic to treat a simple (uncomplicated) UTI.

When to see a doctor:
• If you are pregnant
• If you are male

Please note that an appointment with the pharmacist does not guarantee a prescription. The pharmacist will assess your symptoms and decide if treatment at the pharmacy is right for you, or if you should be referred to a doctor.
